Many of us start to daydream about the gown we will be dressed in on our wedding day not too long after we begin to understand what a wedding is. As little girls, we were introduced to these “enchanting white dresses” on our favorite Disney princesses when they married their beloved Prince. As teenagers and throughout our young adulthood, we marvel at them as worn by the actresses starring in our most cherished romantic comedies such as My Best Friend’s Wedding or 27 Dresses. Thus, it should come as no surprise that we so often fantasize about “The Wedding Dress” when it has been constantly marketed to us at all stages of our lives. Early on, not only do we become familiarized with how jaw-dropping said gowns are meant to be, but also how meaningful they are to the overall occasion.

The wedding dress is much more than a fancy, expensive garment - and although yes, it may put a small dent in your pocket, it is an expense worth making because the bride and her wedding dress (sorry, groom) are the most important figures of the ceremony. As a bride walks down the aisle, she is the center of attention. In that moment she is for the first time presenting herself, to her family and friends, as a woman giving herself fully to a new commitment and partnership. For such an important procession, why would any bride not want to look the best she has ever looked? Additionally, in many countries a bridal gown is an exhibition of the couple’s culture. That is to say, every aspect of the dress is designed to fall in line with their beliefs and traditions. Therefore, not only is wearing the “perfect” wedding gown a bride’s opportunity to showcase herself in the best way possible, but it is also a symbol of everything that both she and the groom cherish about their heritage.

No matter the color, fabric, or style, the wedding dress is a crucial element in one of life’s most significant milestones. Even after the wedding is over, many women decide to hold onto it due to its sentimental value. Your wedding dress will most definitely surpass any other ensemble you have worn up to that point in your life. After all, even Cinderella ended up changing out of her trademark blue gown to exchange it for a white one when she married Prince Charming.
